A Great Discovery
I’ve just made the greatest discovery in my life thus far…
Let me explain.
Freud said that human beings are bound to be miserable because of our very nature. That it’s as though we have in-built mechanisms that ensure our suffering. He observed that everybody wants to be happy, but everybody is miserable. He is right. And anybody who observes human beings and dwell deep into human psyche will eventually have the same conclusion.
My discovery is that this misery is a result of our desire for happiness. From this desire for happiness, people desire many other different things.
It may be..
..a man desires lots of women.
..a man desires power.
..a man desires money.
..a girl desires a Prince Charming.
..a Christian desires eternal salvation through Christ.
..a person desires freedom.
Ultimately, all these desires (and many others, I just listed the common ones) boil down to the root desire for happiness because we think that those things make us happy. And in that desiring for happiness, humanity is bound to misery.
So how is it that desiring happiness makes people miserable? Shouldn’t it make people happy?
I’m glad you asked.
The moment a person desires happiness, he moves away from the present, the Now, the existential and moves into the future, into that which has not come, into a dream. And no one has ever been able to be completely fulfilled from dreams. No one has ever been able to bridge dreams and reality.
Also, the desire for happiness simply shows that the person is miserable in this moment. Since the next moment grows out of this moment, this person is bound to be miserable in the next moment. He might become comfortable with the misery. Maybe he won lottery, maybe he found a new girlfriend, maybe he got promoted at work. But ultimately he is still miserable, simply because he still desires.
So I’ve found that in dropping the desire for happiness, and hence the many desires that sprout out of it, I’ve been able to really be in this moment, in the Now. And the amazing thing is, in the Now, no one is ever able to feel miserable. I tried, but without bringing in the past or the future, it is absolutely impossible to feel miserable.
Try it! Let me know
PS. Had this satori when reading <The Buddha Said…> by OSHO.
Oh noes dead blog?
Once again, a long hiatus. It’s good that not many people read this blog you know. This way there isn’t that feeling of obligation to update it regularly.
So what have I been up to? Basically I picked up Sedona Method (www.sedona.com) and have been using it to clean up the inner space. I highly recommend it.
You know, it’s funny how when you begin to be aware, it becomes like you are another being watching this Roy or this body experiencing everything. Like when Roy is angry, I see that Roy is angry. And yes Roy is quite an angry man, especially when he is playing games. Or when Roy is anxious that there is an awareness of that anxiousness.
This watchfulness is always around, just waiting for me to remember it.
And really, I haven’t really meditated a lot or did anything really bombastic to cultivate it. Well, they might help, but it’s as though awakening is inevitable. Like I’m on a travellator.

A message by the late George Carlin
Our Life Today
The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but
shorter tempers, wider Freeways , but narrower viewpoints. We spend more,
but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and
smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees
but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more
problems, more medicine, but less wellness.
We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too
little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too
tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.
We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too
much, love too seldom, and hate too often.
We’ve learned how to make a living, but not a life. We’ve added years to
life not life to years. We’ve been all the way to the moon and back, but
have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered
outer space but not inner space. We’ve done larger things, but not better
things.
We’ve cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We’ve conquered the
atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more,
but accomplish less. We’ve learned to rush, but not to wait. We build
more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than
ever, but we communicate less and less.
These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small
character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of
two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are
days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night
stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to
quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window
and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this
letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this
insight, or to just hit delete…
Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not
going to be around forever.
Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because
that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.
Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the
only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn’t cost a cent.
Remember, to say, ‘I love you’ to your partner and your loved ones, but
most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes
from deep inside of you.
Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person
will not be there again.
Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the
precious thoughts in your mind.
AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments
that take our breath away.
I see dead blog…
Man… this blog is dead. I don’t know what to talk about that isn’t already in the books of many awesome authors like Adyashanti, OSHO, Eckhart Tolle, Deepak Chopra etc.
You guys will just have to make do with my personal experiences.
One thing I noticed recently in retrospection was that I questioned authorities and supposed truths a lot. I noticed this when my hairstylist commented that it is a fortunate thing that I didn’t turn astray due to my parents’ divorce. I got this comment quite a bit, but this time it really got me thinking.
I did turn rebellious. Not in the Ah Beng go whack people way… but in the “Why must this thing be this way?” kinda way. And also how can people read one article and believe everything in it without questioning it’s credibility?
Somehow, I feel rebelliousness is really a requirement for someone to be on the path to enlightenment.
Enlightenment ain’t for sheeps. MEHHHHHH.
I’m just thinking out loud, pardon me.

Socializing
Ninety percent of all people’s activities are utterly useless, What you call socializing, talking, meeting people, is almost all rubbish. It is good that it drops, when you become alert it drops.
Rather than talking the whole day, gossiping, you become a person of few words, but these few words will be significant. Now, only real relationships will remain.
A few deep intimate relationships are enough, that are really fulfilling. In fact, people who don’t have intimate relationships usually have many relationships to substitute. You can have one thousand friends that will not make for one real one.
Sadly, that’s what most people ever does. Talk all day about insignificant stuff and have friends like how many children a rat can have in its life time. They think that quantity can be a substitute for quality. It never does.

LOL!
You guys noticed the new disclaimer for this blog? I thought it rocks. GJ Kar.
On a side note, you guys saw the Edison Chen scandal photos? My ego has a thing against hairy untamed pussies.
Time to meditate on that.
Anyway I have been distracting myself, and generally just stopped meditating and reading aummy books. It just happened naturally one day so I thought “hey, let’s let everything be as it is”.
Surrender to What Is.

Death
I have finally returned and I apologize for my long absence.
Now, onto my post. Recently the subject of death and dying came across my mind. Not that I am suicidal or anything. Its just that I’ve seen people dying and then theres people mourning for them and yes, I agree mourning is necessary for the lost of a loved one but let it be for a brief moment. Let celebration follow for the awakening and freedom of the soul (or whatever you wanna call it) from the bondage of society and the ego. Why can’t funerals be fun? Wouldn’t that be nice?
While I’m at it, why do people fear death, why cling on to the meat we’re in when so much more awaits after death. This post is in no way promoting you to kill yourself.
I hope I can keep up with the regular posting O.o

Picking Up
I apologize for my long absence once again. If only someone else will keep this blog alive. *looks at Kar*
Now some of you may know that I have quite a bit to say about pick up (or approaching girls). After all, my path to enlightenment started with me reading about pick up.
After these few years, I have learnt much about pick up and more importantly, about myself. Learning pick up has a lot more to do with facing myself than learning techniques/tricks/lines/openers etc. This is what I call inner game.
The purpose of this post is to share with you guys my latest satori. After an incident involving a guy from my NS unit using my name/reputation to approach a waitress claiming that I was the one who want her email (who in the blue hell wants a girl’s email anyway? It takes a lot more than words on my screen to turn me on), I came to realize the root cause of an inability to pick up.
The word is once again… Ego.
The only reason any human being will have any problem approaching another human being is the Ego. The idea that we are seperate. That somehow You are You and I am I.
More importantly, it is the unquestioned assumption that if you are rejected, you are somehow less than before you approached. Or that you are somehow more than who you were before the approach if the girl is receptive to you. This is all Ego-identity.
Only the Ego see things in terms of ‘more than’ or ‘less than’. This is why I say Singapore is an ego-centric Hell. Everybody labels everyone else and puts them either into the “he/she is less than me” or the “he/she is more than me” categories. If you were to just examine closely, you’ll realize that most Singaporeans spent most of their lives accumulating things so that they can feel more than the others.
That is the unconsciousness of humanity.
This post is coming to an abrupt end.
Porn for Girls, by Girls
Saw this amazing link, thought I would share it just for laughs.

PS. It’s actually quite sad that I know some uptight people who won’t click that link just because it contains the word ‘porn’ in it.
Non-Living on Borrowed Knowledge
Ah… bloody long since I last posted. Mind you, I’m talking about clock time, not psychological time.
For today, let’s talked about borrowed knowledge. By borrowed knowledge I mean the supposed “words of wisdom” of others. Why am I against something that so many people swear upon?
“The simpleton learns from his own mistakes, the genius learn from other’s mistakes.”
The reason is simple… if one lives his life primarily on borrowed knowledge, he is not exactly living his own life, he is living in others’ shadows. Of course there are some borrowed knowledge that are beneficial to believe in. One of them would be “John! Don’t ever stick your hand into the fire!”
That said, most other borrowed knowledge are more harmful than they are beneficial. It takes out the experiential part of Life and automize people (hence unconsciousness).
So I say, question your own unquestioned assumptions. Experience Life for yourself! Feel the flow that it was meant to be! Whether you believe in the eternal Me that can never die (ie. reincarnation) or not, LIVE FREE.
